Welcome to the site. Here you will find about all the answers you need in making a good decision on buying a Childrens Picnic Table. Find dozens of styles and designs, colors and materials of kid’s tables and chairs, benches and outdoor furniture designed with them in mind. Whether you are buying your first kid’s picnic table, or replacing one that may have worn out in the elements, you’ll find guidance in getting the right one for you right here. Let’s start with the most popular table for children.

Childrens Picnic Table

Many tables now come built in such a way that they will accommodate an umbrella, and that is a wonderful feature if where you are going to place the picnic table you don’t get a lot of wind or gusts. Some structures are light in weight, designed to be portable to carry off when the activities are done. So they can easily tip over when enough wind gets under that umbrella. But don’t worry, there are plenty of other tables for your young ones. And if you’re getting lots of wind, you may not even need the protection.

Kid’s Table and Chairs

Perfect for doing homework or playing games, these hardwood tables and chairs designed just for kids are classic and will probably be handed down in your family. We bought some made of birch and they have lasted forever. There are many styles, but simple wood without colors can match just about any room decor and can be taken outside for use when the extended family comes over for holiday. You really get what you pay for with kids table and chairs. I found a lot of junk online.

Kids Picnic Table

What is exciting about this table is that it can be used outdoors or in, and it is a piece of cake to take down and move around. We even use these at our church in the children’s department. They are sturdy and hold up well to much abuse. But stay away from the kids picnic tables that are made of thin plastic because they will bend and permanently warp with any weight. Stick with heavier tables and you won’t be sorry. Read the weight limits on the tables as they will not take the weight of adults, but hold up well with kids.

Playhouses for Kids

There is nothing as fun as a playhouse for children. Boys make it a fort, and girls have fun playing house. And the best designs I found here were open so that parents would have no problem watching children as they played. Closed playhouses have to be monitored closely, so remember that when you shop. Many of the cooler playhouses have working phones, doorbells, and lights, but I found that kids will have just as much fun with a basic one that is well built and easy for you to move around. These are made mainly out of polyurethane plastic so they will last for many years. Make sure you find one that fits more than one child and where the shipping won’t cost you and arm and a leg.

Desks for Kids

Here’s a product that comes in a ton of different designs, and the one I found most useful is the one that looks almost like a regular school desk that kids can slide into from the side. In fact, there is a model that allows for left or right handed kids. Want to get the off on the right foot for homework? This is a perfect addition to your home. If you have two small kids, they’ll probably be fighting over who gets to use this, because desks for kids are something they feel is theirs. Look for good use of space and durability, and something that is easy to assemble. Makes a great space for the kids to eat lunch, too.

There are a couple of options with desks for kids where you might want to go with a simple school type desk, or opt for a computer desk that they can grow into. For example, even if they don’t own a computer yet, and I’m sure they are using them in school, kids can use a computer desk without the computer for homework. Then as they progress, provided that the desk you bought was a good quality, they can then use the desk along with their computer.

I suggest starting children out real early with a desk. This allows them to get used to the idea of studying or working in one place in the house and will help them later in school. It is also special to them because they can call the desk and area their own without having to find a place to do their homework, such as the kitchen table or on their bed using a book to write on. Desks for kids make total sense, and I only wish we would have purchased the one for my daughter a little earlier in her life. Right now she is eying the bunk bed with desk which is not a bad option and makes great use of small spaces. These are online and come in varying colors.

With a desk for kids you can turn an otherwise empty corner in their room into something very useful. Think study-zone, a place they can really get into what they are learning without the distractions of your home. I am all for the space-saving designs even though you might have a typical school type desk in mind, which is probably OK for your kid. They can always graduate into the computer style desk later. Remember that if they are going to be using the desk to write on, to do homework, projects, you need to find a desk that has the space and is not encumbered by the keyboard drawer. If there is no space on the top of the desk because of a monitor or keyboard, your child will find somewhere else to write and thus defeat the purpose.

The final consideration I give you is the choice of materials on the market. There is plastic, metal, wood and a combination of those. Plus there are varying qualities of each one. For example, wood – you have pine or cedar, birch maybe, planks that are solid. You can also have pressboard which will come apart with a little water. Many desks for kids are made with this material, so take time to make sure you don’t order a desk of pressboard. You will be sorry later as they are mainly flimsy and fall apart. They are cheap to make which is why they are used so much in the bottom end furniture manufacturing.

Look for merchants who offer speedy delivery, maybe even free shipping, and that stand behind the product they have on their websites. It pays to shop around and read reviews on website that sell these desks for kids. Do your homework.

There are three basic choices I found when shopping for playhouses for kids. Mainly dealing with construction, they are made of wood, or plastic, or a combination of the two. The wood versions are very warm and inviting and with today’s tooling and woodworking, there are some pretty nice playhouses out there. Take for example the KidKraft playhouses. These incorporate a plastic roof made from plastic that is treated to last in ultraviolet rays, and a structure made from wood. This is an excellent way of combining the two materials in something that will be long lasting and fun for the kids for many years. The playhouses come disassemble for the most part so you have to either have help, or an understanding of using basic tools such as a wrench and screwdriver. Plan about 5 hours for most playhouses.

One thing you need to remember as you shop is to look at what age range the playhouses for kids was designed for. Many websites I found don’t have this listed and it’s important because they build the playhouse smaller for tiny tots and for almost the same price you can get a house made for youngsters. If it isn’t listed, ask. These things can get big with sizes into the 6×8 foot range. Speaking of that, there are some cute cottages on the market that are the size of a medium sized shed. What I saw was a wood construction called LP Smart Side used in the construction industry. Now again, this is a treated material with zinc borate that resists mold and rot. I don’t know what sort of problems humans have with that, but know it is not natural.

However, this is the very same material used in many homes, so I suppose it is better than much of the treated lumber out there. The cottages are prefab as are all of the playhouses for kids. And you can paint them in any color you like. You will be happy knowing that most parts of the LP Smart Side material is covered by a 50 year warranty. Wonder if anyone will ever take them up on something like that?

One of the other fun designs I found and am fond of are the cedar shed childrens playhouse for kids. Long name, but a beautiful design and wonderful use of one of my favorite woods, cedar. This prefab is easy to put together and can be painted or left raw to weather in the elements. It looks great with flowers around it to give it that special playhouse look. The big playhouses will accommodate about 4 kids and some even come with furniture for spending time, eating, reading, relaxing. Cedar is non-toxic and safe for everyone. It preserves itself and that’s why I really like it for these playhouses for kids.

Take time when researching because it will pay off in the end. There are firms out there that send out merchandise without checking to make sure everything is included and you don’t want that happening to you. Look for a contact number on the website you buy from and ask about free shipping.

Here is where you can spend some time trying to whittle down exactly what you want in a kids picnic table. Now unless you already have a picnic table and are simply wanting to find something that matches it, you will be in for a surprise, maybe a pleasant one, to see the diversity of tables and materials used. My tip here is to not buy anything that reminds them of school. They spend a lot of their day at school and there are steel tables there that are not all that comfortable. So unless you’re buying for a school or church, look for plastic or wood as your material of choice. Aluminum is another material that is long-lasting and used in commercial applications. And yes, they do have kids sizes available.

Kids will enjoy your outdoor activities more when they have their very own place to sit. Look for a kids picnic table that is sturdy and around 27 inches tall. This is the proper height for kids and will make them comfortable. One consideration is a table made out of vinyl. Vinyl is very sturdy and today has become more durable with the addition of titanium dioxide. They put titanium dioxide in the vinyl to help it stabilize against the UV rays that break down plastics out in the sun. Ultraviolet makes normal vinyl brittle and fade. With the new formulation, I’ve see kids picnic tables made from vinyl have 20 year guarantees on them. That’s impressive. And with vinyl they can make the table any color, so you have a huge choice.

If you want to go the organic, green, non-chemical route, consider a kids picnic table made from untreated wood. Cedar is an excellent wood that is very durable and can stand up in the elements. Pressure treated wood generally used in picnic tables is injected with great amounts of toxic compounds to preserve the wood. The most common preservative used in the USA was chromated copper arsenate, an insecticide that is 22 percent pure arsenic, a known carcinogen. But it was banned in 2004. Still it is being sold for industrial use, so read labels. The replacement is now alkaline copper quat, a less toxic organic pesticide. There is no long term study on ACQ. So you might want to consider untreated wood.

A kids picnic table made from cedar is light and resists warping and cracking. You’ve probably been in a cedar closet. The reason builders use this wood is because the oils contain thujaplicins – that great aroma that we love but bugs hate. So this means the picnic table will last a long time.

Plastic vinyl or wood are my two recommendations. Try to find an online firm that will have your color and style and that might give you free shipping with your order. As always, make sure they have a way to contact them offline and a guarantee of their products. Find the kids picnic table you want and that will last for a long time.

What I found out about kid’s table and chairs is that they come in plastic and wood. There are a few metal versions out there as well. The advantage I found with metal is that the table legs normally folded up. You might think about this as I did, as my daughter’s room is small. You can easily fold the table and stack the chairs away in the closet. With these differing materials, I am not sure one lasts longer than another. With birch, the wood seems to hold up for a long time. We still have a table that we purchased 10 years ago that is painted birch and it’s rock hard and I know it probably last another 10 years without a problem. Plastics on the other hand, have a way of aging and getting brittle to the point that they will break, or fade and just not look as good as painted wood. Then of course, metal can rust and is colder. Things to think about.

The kid’s table and chairs come in almost every conceivable color, but mainly in the primary colors. You can also order differing colors of chairs than the table to give the room or place where you will be using the table and chairs and real lively look. They also come in themes for you to choose from and I thought it was great to be able to match the ongoing theme of my daughter’s room. There are animal themes, which some are like the animal kingdom, and others simply all lions, or zebras, or what have you. Other themes are pirates, princess, and naturally, all of the Disney characters, Nick Jr, and other kid’s channels. This is excellent because it really sets the room off when you have matching items. And your child will be much more accepting of the table and chairs when they see that they match the theme they already love.

One other theme that I didn’t mention and which is great for boys is sports. And you can find endless kid’s tables and chairs with this theme online and in the department stores. You will find a better selection online and have the ability to pick and choose at your will. One thing I would caution is to look for a company with a reputable website, that has 800 numbers with real people answering, and where you can possibly get free shipping. This can be a time saver because you never have to leave your home to go through the hundreds of selections, and you can immediately compare with your child’s room to see if what you are thinking about is actually a fit.

Finally, a consideration we almost went with was a kid’s table and chairs combination that looked like a school table where our daughter could come home from school and set up to do her homework. This is a great option because you’re making multi-use of the table and it really does come into its value then. Think about these ideas and choose the table and chairs that is right for your kids.
